Color the Trails, a Black woman-owned business is dedicated to enhancing access to outdoor activities for BIPOC and 2SLGBTQAI+ individuals. I recently had the incredible experience of attending “Color the Slopes,” a four-day celebration of skiing, sharing, and community at a ski resort in Revelstoke.

They aim to establish a safe and inclusive space for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels, fostering connections and breaking barriers in a traditionally white-dominated environment.

Coming from a tropical country, this summit was my initiation into winter sports, allowing me to step out of my comfort zone. I successfully achieved my goal of learning to ski for the first time. “Color the Slopes” provides a safe haven for everyone, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds, with allies also encouraged to join.

Leaving the summit, I felt a profound sense of belonging and rejuvenation. The freedom to be oneself without judgment or prejudice was surreal, and I wholeheartedly plan to return next year. Let’s hope more people join to nurture this beautiful community’s growth.
